TNO (1932) is an independent, not-for-profit research organization founded by law in 1932 to boost the competitiveness of companies and organisations, stimulate the economy and advance the quality of society. Energy is one of seven focus areas in TNO with 500+ researchers active in national, and international research & development projects regarding exploration, production and transport oil and natural gas, carbon capture & storage, sustainable energy, smart energy systems and energy efficiency. TNO Energy also comprises the Geological Survey of the Netherlands.
The Energy Division of TNO has a broad track record in designing and monitoring Smart Energy Systems including large scale national and EU projects such as the design of an Energy Internet (NL), Smart Grids for Electric Cars, Smart Grid user participation pilots, new value- and business models (see also TNO Energy on www.tno.nl). TNO Energy combines both technical and social science for integrated solutions.
